🌵 Arizona House Republicans are trying to impeach Attorney General Kris Mayes.

An all-Republican committee formed to investigate Mayes released a 102-page report outlining what they deemed impeachable offenses, including her indictment of two Cochise County Supervisors who refused to certify 2022 election results. “This is a sham report from a committee that never should have existed in the first place,’’ Mayes said.

🌵 Arizona taxpayers are on the hook for $120,000 in legal fees after an unsuccessful lawsuit to stop dual-language instruction in Arizona schools.

Republican State Superintendent Tom Horne believes that some schools are unlawfully teaching students in both English and their native language, usually Spanish. A Maricopa County judge ruled that Horne had no legal authority to force schools to limit dual-language instruction, nor did the people he sued, which included Governor Katie Hobbs. Horne has appealed.

🌵 The Tucson Audubon Society is dropping “Audubon” from its name.

Tucson is the latest local Audubon chapter to drop the name in recognition that namesake John Audubon owned, bought, and sold enslaved people. The group said they will begin working on a new name for the chapter that reflects inclusivity.

🌵 Arizona is predicted to have a hotter-than-average summer.

National Weather Service predictions give Arizona a 50% to 70% chance that temperatures will be warmer than normal. In Phoenix, officials are bracing for highs near 110° by mid-June. The city had 31 days in a row with 110° or higher temperatures last year, setting an all-time record.

🌵 Lastly, a telescope on Mount Graham has captured a new high-resolution picture of Jupiter’s moon Io.

The image, which highlights the moon’s volcanoes and lava deposits, was captured using the Large Binocular Telescope and a new instrument called SHARK-VIS. It is the highest-resolution image of Io ever taken from Earth, and is comparable to views from a spacecraft.
