🌵 The Navajo Nation agreed to a proposed settlement that would deliver Colorado River water to remote tribal communities.

The Navajo, Hopi and San Juan Southern Paiute tribes are seeking more than $5 billion as part of a settlement over Colorado River rights. The tribes were left out of a 1922 federal agreement that secured water for seven states, including Arizona. Nearly a third of homes in the Navajo Nation do not have running water.

🌵 A plan to cut hours at public pools failed to make a splash with the city council.

A proposed schedule released on May 10 by the Tucson Parks and Recreation Department contained a 37% cut in available pool hours from last year. Officials said the cuts were due to budget concerns, usage levels, and staffing. After city council members balked at the plan, the parks department is working on an updated schedule with more pool time.

🌵 Mexico is set to elect its first female president.

Both candidates for the country’s June 2 election are women: leftist Claudia Sheinbaum and conservative Xóchitl Gálvez. This year, Mexican citizens can vote from consular locations outside of Mexico, including Phoenix, if they have not already done so online or by mail.

The rebates are being provided through a $1.8 million state grant aimed at incentivizing commercial properties to use less water. A similar program in Scottsdale led to the removal of more than 400,000 square feet of grass, with an estimated water savings of more than 20 million gallons.

🌵 Lastly, the University of Arizona baseball team will play their first game of the NCAA tournament Friday at Hi Corbett Field.

The #13 Wildcats are hosting the four-team Tucson Regional after winning both the regular season PAC-12 championship and the PAC-12 tournament. Their first game is against Grand Canyon University on Friday, May 31 at 6:00 p.m. MST.
