Tuesday Microburst: Presidential preference election, Conover takes diversion deal, SpaceX rocket puts on a show

šŸŒµ It’s presidential preference election day in Arizona.

The polls are open until 7:00 p.m. If you didn’t vote early, you can use the Pima County Recorder’s website to find a vote center near you. Only registered Democrats and Republicans can participate. The results of the non-binding election tells state parties who voters want to see on their ballots for president.

šŸŒµ Pima County Attorney Laura Conover agreed to a “diversion” deal to end a state bar investigation.

The investigation dates back to complaints filed by a former Pima County Attorney’s Office attorney after Conover was elected in 2021. The details of the complaint have not been made public, but the diversion agreement requires Convoer to take legal education classes related to conflicts of interest.

šŸŒµ A SpaceX rocket launch put on a show over Tucson Monday night.

The Falcon 9 rocket carrying Starlink communications satellites launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California around 8:30 p.m. Arizona time and headed southward. As the rocket climbed higher, its exhaust caught the last rays of the setting Sun, putting on a brilliant display.

šŸŒµ Governor Hobbs vetoed a controversial housing bill.

The bill would have prohibited Arizona municipalities from requiring HOAs, setting minimum home sizes, and removing certain building setback requirements. Hobbs said that the legislation was too expansive and would do little to help with Arizona’s housing crisis.

šŸŒµ Lastly, March Madness is underway for both the men’s and women’s University of Arizona basketball teams.

The men earned a #2 seed and will open play against Long Beach State on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Arizona time. The women landed a play-in game and will face Auburn on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. for the right to enter the tournament as a #11 seed.
