🌵 The Arizona House voted to repeal the state’s 1864 abortion ban.

Three Republicans sided with Democrats to help pass the repeal, which must now be approved by the Senate before going to Governor Hobbs’ desk. Even if lawmakers pass the repeal, it will not go into effect until late summer or early fall, well after the ban itself becomes law on June 8.

🌵 A grand jury indicted 18 Republicans over a 2020 scheme to give Arizona’s electoral votes to Donald Trump.

After Joe Biden won Arizona in November 2020, a group of 11 ‘fake electors’ met at Arizona Republican headquarters in Phoenix to cast the state’s electoral votes for Donald Trump. The electors are charged with conspiracy, fraudulent schemes and artifices, fraudulent schemes and practices, and six counts of forgery. Trump is named as an unindicted co-conspirator. 

🌵 March was the busiest month at Tucson International Airport since 2008.

Nearly 400,000 passengers passed through the airport in March 2024. Officials said March is always the busiest month due to seasonal travel, but the numbers are even higher as a result of airlines expanding their service here.


🌵 A jury could not reach a verdict in the trial of a rancher accused of murdering a migrant on his property.

George Alan Kelly allegedly used an AK-47 to shoot at migrants passing through his property in January 2023, killing Gabriel Cuen Buitimea of Nogales, Mexico. The bullet that killed Cuen Buitimea was never found, although law enforcement officers found nine casings from the AK-47 on Kelly’s patio. The trial lasted nearly four weeks.
