Thursday Microburst: County admin won’t support new jail, teacher fired over OnlyFans, aid workers bail out Border Patrol

Good afternoon. The weather is expected to be sunny through the weekend. Expect a high of 73° on Friday, 76° on Saturday, and 76° on Sunday.

🌵 Aid workers transported freezing migrants to a Border Patrol station in Sasabe, after agents said their vehicles couldn’t make the trip.

About 400 migrants were stranded in winter weather over the weekend while waiting to turn themselves in to the Border Patrol southwest of Tucson. Many two-wheel drive Border Patrol vans have trouble making it up the steep roads that run alongside the border wall. After being told the Border Patrol couldn’t reach the migrants, the aid workers transported them to the Sasabe station, where some had to continue waiting outdoors because the processing center was full.

🌵 Pima County administrator Jan Lesher said she does not support a new jail.

In a memo to the Pima County Board of Supervisors, Lesher acknowledged that the current jail has serious infrastructure problems and stressed the need to increase funding for mental and physical health services. But she wasn’t convinced a new jail was the answer, and stressed that the county needed to examine ways to decrease the jail population.

🌵 The Tucson Unified School District loosened its dress code.

The TUSD board voted 3-2 to remove the sentence “Clothing must cover the chest and torso, and must cover buttocks while standing and sitting.” Still in the policy is the line, “Clothing must cover undergarments.” The board heard testimony that the dress code was disproportionately enforced on females, and that some teachers and staff feel uncomfortable enforcing dress codes at all.

🌵 A Catalina Foothills teacher with a checkered past was fired over her OnlyFans account.

In a letter to parents, district officials said they fired Nkechi Diallo after learning of her OnlyFans account, which violated district social media policies. Diallo, formerly known as Rachel Dolezal, was previously involved in a controversy in which she falsely identified as a Black woman while heading up an NAACP chapter in Spokane, Washington.

🌵 Lastly, there won’t be a spring edition of Cyclovia this year.

Cyclovia closes streets throughout the city, turning them into a rolling block party for bicyclists, pedestrians, skaters, and scooter users. Living Streets Alliance, which organizes Cyclovia, said that rising costs prompted them to cancel the spring event. Cyclovia will return in the fall.
